My first gorilla designs were hairless. I was looking for a gorilla character and focusing on emotions in the sculpture and texture itself. I analyzed the expression of the face to give the gorilla or the monkey appropriate emotions. It was a great lesson for me about balancing form with details. I noticed that the fur can help emphasize facial expressions or achieve a specific mood of the project, so I decided to create a series of furry monkeys and gorillas. Its varied texture enhances expression, that is why once the fur is sculpted aggressively and other times gently. It is a typical sculptural rather than a schematic way. I am sure that in the near future I will create more designs of monkeys with different characters - among them there will be more sketchy sculptures or very precise with great attention to detail.
